Galleries: Artistance & Art Star

It’s been a little while since I’ve done anything fun, or at least considered a bit of fun…who am I kidding, I  enjoy myself all the time. What should be saying is it’s been a while since I’ve attended an art show or any gallery for that matter. Something I’ve always loved to do. Not only do I get to see stunning new works, I get to network. Being in the art scene is having your own little community. Everyone basically knows each other, and if you don’t you know someone who knows someone.

That was pretty much what happened when I walked into the little tiny gallery on Broadway. Show:Artistance.

I’ve been here before, but I could tell it was under new management. It used to have old wooden panels on the walls, straight up old school, and now it has been transformed into an all white open space. I like.  I drag Chris along with me, or should I say he invited himself along to what would have been a solo date for myself, mainly because I know he was feeling guilty about a little argument we had. Something that never really lasts too long anyway. I said fine, come and join me… Isn’t it great when somebody hits you up, and you actually have a life of your own and are not dreading on silly behaviors of others? Moving on.

We walk inside and start on left hand side, since the space is small we could see everything in a matter of a few minutes. Like usual I go through every piece and stare for a bit. I always like getting a bit closer to admire the brushstrokes. It makes me think of the actual process the artist took to achieve the final product of the painting.

We bump into a style that looks fairly familiar, and I tell Chris, “this looks like the same artist that Matt (Chris’s brother) has in his room, the Bob Marley piece”. Chris looks at me says “Nah” I was pretty sure of it, especially because the signature looked so familiar, it was an “M” with  certain swirl to it, I tell him ” Text Matt a pic of the piece and we’ll find out right now.”

Next thing you know the artist comes up behind us, and recognizes Chris right away, I have never met her before, and she starts talking about her piece, and Chris is just laughing, surprised at how small the world is, and shocked at me that I even realized the connection between the two paintings.  Sometimes you just know.

Before our arrival, I text my aunt Scarla, I know she lives around the neighborhood and she’s always willing to discover new surroundings and appreciate the creative lifestyles. I ask her to join us, and a few moments later she arrives at the scene. As usual I’m always happy to see her. She parked right in front of the gallery and a friendly stranger comes up to her right away warning her that she’s about to get a ticket. Scarla has always been a smooth talker, she was already given the ticket but the cop tells her don’t worry about it and rips it up. I need to learn that gift of gab, like yesterday!

The night was young, we had a couple of beers and headed to the 2nd show: Art Star.

I swear, finding a parked with a few beers in your system is always funny. The cold didn’t help much but after walking the wrong direction for a few blocks, you smarten up and realize there’s no time trying to be cute outside in the freezing cold. Especially since Chris boycotts coats.

The night was young and we arrived at the second show: Art Star. We didn’t stay much, but I bumped into Marcus Allen, a fellow artist I have met a couple of times now. Super talented, you guys have seen his work on a previous post HERE. After the festivities, we headed to a little hipster bar that was playing spanish music, I had about 2 glasses of wine which was pretty damn good.

Check out a quick video of our night..warning, you may want to lower your volume.

On The Set : Toby Love’s music video Lejos

The driven Jorge and and Edgar asked Misha  and I to be P.A.’s for an upcoming project.

and I was excited, how could I say no?

The talented  Danny Hastings from Atomicus Films would be shooting, for all you spanish music lovers out there, bachatero  Toby Love ‘s  new music  video, Lejos.

The first day we started to  set up, I was up and ready to go by like 10 p,m Yes, we were working at night.

Once we got to the location, everything was covered in dust. We had so much work to do.

We needed to make a  bar, work on the stage, remove  many furniture that just doesnt fit, clean, paint, add lights,  and  so on.

So we got started.

After all the work we did, we still were not  finished.  Day two rolled around and we got started right away. Jorge started to paint his speak easy sign while I got a hold of the curtains that are on stage. I have to say, with the limited fabric I had, I think I did them enough justice. ♥

Day three, time to shoot.

I had  to go to work, and couldn’t be there by 5am like everyone else. I got to work at 5 am and left by 9am.

I couldn’t miss this. I finally arrived by 10:30am ( long way to Brooklyn )  and everyone was already set up.

I was glad I didn’t miss much.

The wonderful Pia  was doing wardrobe  and I have to say she did great!

I’ve seen her strut her fashion senses when we were in High School together,  in  our fashion illustration classes together, and even in our annual fashion talent  shows,  but things like that are never really the same once you’re rushed and being put under pressure because of timing and one horrible person you have to deal with and answer to.

Yes, I went there. hahaha

Any way, to back to our behind the scenes posts, enough drama.

Toby Love was actually a very chill person.

You could tell he was loved by many , not just because of his twitter stats, but because he was very down to  earth, cracking jokes and such kind of dude.

I cannot express enough how much I was glad he was just him and nothing to extravagant.

Hooray for celebrities that aren’t douche-bags!

Can you believe this awesome dress that the female lead Sally was wearing for the Flash back shot was Pia’s High school Prom dress!

It looked amazing on her.

Sally’s acting was on point, especially her face expressions.

Well, I hope you guys enjoyed a sneak peak into this video.  I have been holding this post hostage until Gabriel was finished editing all the clips together, so you guys can have everything at once.

Everyone was absolutely fantastic to work with. I had such a great time and experience and I definitely hope it’s not the last.

So enough stalling, here’s the end result. Enjoy, and please don’t forget to visit all the links below that take it back to those who made it happen.
