Travel : Washington D.C. 2019

Sometimes it’s time to escape the hustle and bustle of NYC, and find some bustle somewhere else.
Weekend getaways tend to be my favorite. I can pack a small backpack with me, have a new adventure and go back to work on Monday like nothing ever happened.

A friend recently told me about Bolt bus (and yes, I may be late to the party.. even though I took one about 5 years ago to get to Boston, and completely forgot they existed) and it was time to hit the road.
I visited Washington D.C. a long time ago as a kid. I must have been around 10 years old. I still remember the bright baggy mustard pants, and the turquoise and purple windbreaker jacket I was wearing(It was the late 90’s okaaaay) Think, little Dominican girl dressed like The Fresh Prince, hahaha. My dad’s car ended up leaving us on the side of the road, and our choice was to rent something, anything to get there the rest of the way.    The closest rental car spot only had a limo left…it was the best entrance I’ve made to the white house. How can you possibly beat that?
Adulting is a little different, I hopped off the bus and roamed the streets, taking  in everything so I can remember it this time.
Getting caught in the rain, and not really caring about my hair or clothes was just an extra touch of freedom.
One of my favorite things about has got to be the endless amounts of free museums. If you find yourself visiting, I promise you, your biggest expense is going to be getting there and figuring out where you’re sleeping. And that wasn’t even too costly. I didn’t really do any bar hopping, but museum hopping was all the rage this weekend. Check  out The Smithsonians if you plan on visiting.

Let’s start at the beginning. I barely got any sleep due to my sniffles, ( yes, I’m a baby like that ) I finally fell asleep at 1am just to wake up at 2:30am to head to work. I had a 5am shift, and I couldn’t be late. Yes, that’s expected for any other regular day at work, but this time I was being sent to a different location and best of all ( sarcastic ) I was going to be spending my day with corporate.

I can’t complain since it was only a four hour shift, but with an hour and a half of commute each way, it was time for me to be grouchy.

I have to admit, I have never appreciated my job and it’s location more than I have this day. I was working with two coworkers from my location, and I couldn’t be more relieved. Everyone else was from different sites, and yes I give everyone chances. I can be friendly and make conversation. There’s only so much you can do though… personalities so dry!

Thank goodness T and B were there! ( You can see them above putting the statues’ ball sack in their mouth ) lol

Oh, wait… that’s me.

After our amazing shift was over ( sarcasm again ) we decided to walk around the mall.

Can you believe I have never been inside the 59th Street Columbus Circle Mall?

So sad, I know.

First stop was the main floor which let’s be honest, we only roamed about two seconds worth of time after we bumped into the huge bronze statue with his balls out… yes, we act like kids!

Once we got the second floor I fell in love.

There was a public viewing ( COUGH COUGH.. FREE ) of the works of many different artists, with one theme in mind…

You guessed it …DC Comics.

If you didn’t get that right, you need to get your common sense checked. )

There was so many great pieces… and honestly this made me feel better about missing Comic Con.

There was Green Lantern , Superman and Catwoman ( waaaay above ) made out Legos.

But, my favorite piece… ( Dum da dum… ) had to be this one….Mocked, or in better words…refrenced by the famous painting,

A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat in 1884-6

Here’s the original, for those who don’t know what I’m talking about:

And here is the one I was drooling over:

This one is titled ” Saturday Morning in front of La Salle De Justice” by Rey Taira 2012

This painting is featured in the Darkness & Light exhibition currently touring the United States as part of DC Entertainment’s We Can Be Heroes initiative to combat hunger in the Horn of Africa.

Check out their website and do what you can to help.

The day didn’t turn out that bad, especially since I was in such a great mood afterwards. I ended up going to my location and working another four hours, giving me my full 8 hour shift..

There’s Leee, Shamil, me and Ariana acting silly.

Until next time guys!

DC BBQ 2012

Thanks to my brother J, my team, DC had a blast getting together and catching up. J usually plans this annual barbecue ( last years bbq post here )  for all of us to attend and actually spend time together, since everyone lately is usually caught up into their own world now-a-days.

( hopefully that changes )

I arrived with a bottle of vodka and a gallon of cranberry juice and greeted everyone with their kiss on the cheek, it didn’t take long for me to start hunting for food.

Of course I was super excited when I saw the guys from Mook Life grilling and I started calling shotgun on the burgers!

I spent most of the whole time throwing a  football  around, girls against guys and I must say, between me, Tuti, Set and Kash us girls definitely had a decent arm. I’m sure these guys were very impressed.

It was also nice seeing the DC guys from Canada, yes we’re everywhere!

Shout out to them.

The sun was blazing and I was so glad I wore a flowy dress instead of some regular jeans and a tee. My only mistake was playing ball in some thong sandals. I started to play barefoot in the grass, but once the game was over I put them on and they just snapped!

All I could think was ” How am I getting home? I’m sure as hell not hopping!”

Ens, the genius that he is hands me a knife and tells me to slice the bottom of my shoe open, thread the leather through and hand tie a knot at the bottom so I can at least get home.

What a prince.

I was happy when I noticed the bestfriend Ari ( Misha ) arrive, especially since she’s been so busy working on a super secret project that you guys are not supposed to know about yet, but will soon and hopefully enjoy. I was even more in shock when she popped up in a dress!

And even more, in stripes!

haha I loved it!

The lovely Kash ( Teekayelle ) also made an appearance and I’m always more than happy when I have friends from two different circles collide. Not that this was the first time of them meeting. We have much work and good times ahead of us.

And on that note, until the next adventure…. later guys.

Thanks to ARI and JEN for the photgraphs.
