Rome 2017: Pizza, Plazas, Pasta & Palatine Hill

I honestly think I was more excited for Italy than the UK. I was ready to get so fat!
Our flight was quick, and this hotel was a dream compared to London’s. For one, our outlets actually worked. (Don’t even get me started on me trying to use a flat iron, or even something so simple as charging my phone.)
One of the first things I noticed was a mural of one of my favorite artists right next to our hotel, so I was already jumping for joy. I tried to find out if Tara McPherson had a studio there so I can go take a sneak peek in, but it turns out, her painting spot is closer to home than I thought—Brooklyn. Womp womp… (but secretly… yay!)

We made our way towards The Colosseum, and it was packed….and when I say packed, I mean.. you can’t even find the entrance. You have a bunch of tour guides coming up to you.. you know hustling, and a bunch of scalpers, trying to get you to.. gotta make that moolah.

I don’t know if you guys have ever watched the show Scam City..all I could do is chuckle right now.. bc let me tell you– slickness.
The show’s main purpose is to open your eyes to some of the famous scams locals target tourists with.. and when this guys came came up to us… that’s all I kept thinking about.

He comes up to Phil and I… ” Hey, my friend… I know you right?
Phil: Nah, you don’t know me man.
Vendor, carrying a bunch of bracelets: Yes, my friend… Where you from? (Phil answers) aaaah. me too! I came here some time ago.
P: Yeah, that’s cool.
V: Here, my friend, a gift for you (hands us bracelets) you know, we gotta stick together!
P: Thanks man. (vendor walks away)

Phil and I look at each other- and we didn’t even have to say anything to each other, we kinda communicated telepathically at that moment (he didn’t even ask for money… hmm.. maybe we were jumping into conclusions)
Vendor, who is currently abut 20 feet from us, turns back around and flashes us a smile.
Vendor: My friend, I didn’t charge you for the bracelets, but how about a donation? For my daughter, (flashes us a picture of his daughter on his cellphone) Phil and I just chuckle, like daaaamn… we knew it. we got got.
We tell him we have no money, and start taking off the bracelets to return it back to him.. He shrugs it off, and says no… that was a gift… just a little something, yet he’s telling us the amount to “donate”.  He settles for about half of what he asked for and walks away. Phil and I just start cracking up , like damn… the hustle is real!

We decided to start off at Palatine Hill,  the ancient ruins of Rome. The sun was beaming hard, and I regret not bringing my sunblock with me. (I’m not much of a tanner, but I get nice little bronze when I do– latinas, you know!)
I don’t read much whenever I visit an exhibit, museum or anything historic along those lines, which kinda made Phil laugh, because I kept rushing off someplace new every other second. I tend to find a tour guide, and sneak my way into their group without them noticing.

After the tour, and the endless walking it was time to eat, and we were starving. We stop at the first spot we see near the tourist attractions (BIG mistake, don’t ever do this) but we were desperately hungry. Phil orders the shrimp scampi, while I go on and order the gnocchi, which is pretty much like tiny dumplings. It was pretty good, but not what we were expecting from ITALIA! Not to mention how rude our waiter was. I wanted to get out of there before I gave him a piece of my mind.
I tend to be the wild child in many situations, but compared to Phil, I’m super lowkey. This time though, I put on the peer pressure, and we randomly walked into a tattoo shop, where I insisted we get something done. After all of my convincing, we decided to get our noses pierced. The price was pretty steep, and we could have easily gotten this done back  home for half the price, but why— when we can say ” I got my nose pierced in Italy.
I’ve had plenty of holes in my body– that sounded weird even as I wrote it. But piercings are nothing new for me. The rockabilly babe with blonde hair holding the big needle told me I was trooper, in italian of course, and I just smiled. She couldn’t say the same thing about Phil though… (evil laughs)

When looking for The Trevi Fountain, you could tell we were close, because you can hear the water, from many feet away. The blocks around this neighborhood were like a maze filled with small shops selling all type of souvenirs. After we dropped our coin in the fountain, which legend says when you throw it over your shoulder, you are sure to return back to Italy. (Here are some other cool facts about the famous fountain) we decided to go spend some money. Well, I decided.
One of the things my mother insisted on me NOT doing, was buying souvenirs. According to her, I spend too much money on buying presents for other people (which is true, traveling or not) and that I should just do something for myself.  I tried to listen, but I couldn’t hold back. It’s just how I am. I bought my mother the cutest little olive oil dispenser, my father a bottle of limoncello, and my niece and nephew customized, embroidered bibs. They were so damn cute!.

It’s off to get food again, because– fat asses!  We stop at this really nice restaurant this time, that I didn’t get the name for, because, it’s me. (shrugs)  We order a pizza for the table, and our meals… and it was delicious. The couple next to us starts conversation, and they were the absolutely sweetest. We start talking about Trump and how much of a disgrace he is to USA, and immediately bonded.  After our food, even though there wasn’t much space left, I invite them to join us for gelato.

Gelateria Frigidarium, (you see, that I don’t forget) was soooo good. I’ve been warned about gelato spots in Rome, since most of them are tourist traps and are not really tasty.. but this one was highly recommended every time I did my homework. And me and my research.. I get it done!

One of the man things we really wanted to do was go to The Vatican City to go see the stunning Sistine Chapel. We just didn’t have the time (cries myself to sleep) .  I guess our wish at the Trevi Fountain better come true… because I definitely need to see that next time I come to Rome, and there well be a next time!

Per usual, my OOTD illustration:
When you Spend the day roaming the ancient Roman ruins, and secretly want to climb on everything!
I didn’t though, I promise!

Bodega Pizza

“Feliz Cumbe” for my Good Friday.
Finally made my way to Bodega Pizza. I’ve heard so many good things of this spot. The same spot that used to be Apt.78. I ordered Feliz Cumbe, it was like a Hawaiian, with corn added to it. I was skeptical at first, of the corn, but it was absolutely delicious. Francheska‘s margherita pizza was on point as well. Hmmm.. this outing might be a little far for me, but I’ll definitely be back.

Back to Pizza Zoo

Pizza Zoo, oh, you’ve been fun. For those of you who don’t know what it is, picture a house party, with cool vibes, drinks, pizza and music blasting. It was amazing.

I haven’t seen MaryAnn in quite some time, you know, work and living our lives and all. So when  I saw that this event was happening again, I didn’t want to go with anyone else but her. I’ll admit, I’ve only been to one Pizza Zoo before, last year around April, and it’s no lie when they say, the company you keep makes it all worth while. I’m getting ready, pre-gaming with some wine, before Mary Ann pops up at my house. I’ve been hearing rumors about the rain, and I honestly wasn’t too worried about it. I was only hoping it would rain once I was already over there and not on my way. Dominicans answer their hair, am I right or am I right?  That didn’t stop the Twitter world though, suggestions from “we’ll just have a wet T-shirt contest!” were spiraling and I couldn’t help but laugh.I also noticed a lot of people were trying to find tickets at last minute, since all of the online tickets were sold out. I’m just glad I planned ahead. Hey, I’ve been carrying my printout ticket in my wallet for a week.

I was so excited. When we arrived it was everything I thought it would be and I was ready to dance. I’ve been to The Well, the space where the event was taking place, once before. It was nothing compared to the last. I was sitting at a bar in the quiet playing board games. This time, DJ was mixing it up and the outside area was getting filled up quickly. We ordered some Tiki punches and soaked it all in.I bumped into a lot of familiar faces, which was great. What was even better was all the positive vibes that was going around. Everyone was just trying to have a good time and you can tell by all the dancing, singing, drinking, mosh pits, and every being carrying around that was going on… that was happening.Pizza Zoo was supplying, you guessed it, pizza! Getting a slice was a little difficult though. I found myself next in front of the line around 3 times, and them running out each time. Hahhaa. . .no worries, that’s why you make friends. Kevin, a super cutie laughed at me, because apparently I was being too nice and didn’t want to tackle anyone, so I got a bite out of his. And later ended up getting me a slice as well. Thanks!

Everyone kept trying to get fed, and was pushing each other like crazy. It wasn’t that serious. It’s just a slice guys, we came here to dance anyway!

All I know is I had a great time, and consider me there for the next one!love, m

It’s a Good Birthday for Goody

Birthdays are always fun, and for Goody this was only 2 out of 7 of his celebrations.

At our arrival, everyone had already scarfed down all the pizza’s that were ordered at Rizzo’s on Clinton St.

The after party was at The Late Late on Houston and Goody had the whole downstairs to himself. MaryAnn and I chugged down some pretty big beers. I ordered her a pilsner, and since it was her first time trying it, she said it was pretty good. Go me.

Goody’s birthday was just as his name, good. Thank you for inviting us, and hope your new year is a blast!

Friday the Thirteenth

d84376a20d6cc3f9ed754bdaa14097e31

After work, I trooped it to the Bronx and headed to Tuff City.

I couldn’t pass up on getting my share of the special, $13 tattoos in honor of this superstitious day.

I was all in, and there was nobody better than to go to Ozbe himself.2

Of course there was a flash sheet to choose from and I of course had to customize mine.

I picked one thing from two tats and asked to blend them together.

Lucky for me, they had no problems with it.

I ended up with this tiny little bad boy and I loved it.

That green popped, love neon!

I got a second tiny tat near my inner arm, which I’ll show you guys a pic of later on.3On the walk back, my Mr.Minx and I walked in to Party City and drooled over all the special fx makeup and props.

We didn’t see any costumes we went crazy for, which is really making us think about what we want to be for Halloween.

It’s gotta be something goooood.

I love Halloween and I can’t wait for it to get here already.4

We ended up buying some colorful mustaches and had a fun walk home.

Everyone kept staring at us and laughing.

We even had a couple of kids come up to us, one little girl asked they were real, I responded by saying, yes, I grew it over night!5Ivan looked great in a blue ‘stache that I ended up giving him.

And after getting some pizza Q and I were ready to go home and start our drinking game 🙂6

Check out Q’s baby, Georgie, he’s such a monster!7Our drinking game had us cracking up and yelling at the T.V. screen.

We placed mustaches on the screen and whenever the ‘stache landed right under someone’s nose,

we drank!8

Take a sip boo!9

Tuti’s Performace

I met up with Jen in Fort Independence with a huge bag of overnight clothes and plans to head to Connecticut.
Plans quickly changed. Destiny, which we all call “Tuti” and is Jen’s niece, was having a performance in her school today.
So we packed up all the kiddies and headed on our way to the MNR. With all the noise and hyper moves everyone quickly scattered giving us places to sit.
That’s Michael, Jen’s brother hooking me up with some chicken wings while we wait for our train to arrive!
Jesse, the youngest brother,Jen and I.
Since we had no napkins to clean up after those chicken wings, to clean up Justen’s hands Jen had the mastermind idea of using pantyliners.lol Oh, man……Poor Justen, he looked humiliated, especially after I snapped a pic!

After finally arriving, a few stops before Poughkeepsie, we were picked up and drove to the school. Though I didn’t get a chance to grab a pic, the school looked beautiful, spacious and almost as if it was fake and able to be used as a backdrop for some cliche highschool movie.

Tuti did great though. She first sang Adele’s Someone like you, then Ceelo Green’s Forget You. of course, it has to be forget you, keeping it classy for the kids.

She then came out, sang and danced a trio in her stunning glittery red dress. Yes, the definitely stole the show!

Here’s a few pics of her special night. ( You guys should already know when you click on any picture it becomes larger )

Everyone was so proud of her! Once the show was over, we all headed out to Giacomo’s for pizza. Where my plate was looking way too good for my own good. I had pizza, a philly cheese steak, philly cheese chicken and some organic fresh mozzarella pizza that was waaaaaay too good!

This family is so inviting, you can clearly see how much love they have for one another. I’ve met many of them on separate occasions, but there’s something about special occasions, I felt so welcomed and grateful for being able to share this moment with them.

Look how cute they are !
Especially with all these little princesses running around who are so fond of their uncles and daddies. Too adorable!

Look at how awesome my plate is, well was..yum! After getting fat we all headed to Mayra, Jen’s sister house and started talking and then a nerf gun fight started!!

I was ready for war.. especially since there was only gun! I would catch the ammo, stuffing my bra with the neon green bullets until I was ready for war!

Once things calmed down we had a little glow in the dark, uv, blacklight fun.

Of course I couldn’t resist leaving my mark with some glow in the dark markers on Jen’s leg =]

Until next time readers !

Rhino and Elephant

My godson is turning four and since tomorrow he’ll be spending the whole day in the Natural Museum of History I took advantage and spent the whole day with him. Kat and I got ready and headed to the pet store. Zj knew he was going to get a present from me today, but just didn’t know what. Once we passed Toys R’Us he started to squeal asking where we were going since we passed the store. hahaha…
We arrived at the pet store and rushed to the hamsters. He immediately fell in love with a blondie female short haired hamster. of course we couldn’t let her be lonely so Kat got her a little friend, a blonde and white haired female teddy bear hamster… soooo cute! The one Zj fell in love with was so feisty!, She chewed out of her travel box two times!
We ended up having to take a cab because this feisty, hyper hamster kept roaming around the bag and we didn’t want to lose her. As soon as we arrived, we set the whole tank up. Zj looked so happy. Exhausted from all that walking, I said my goodbyes and stared to head home, except Zj wasn’t ready to stop hanging out!
He insisted on coming home with me, so we stopped and got some ice-cream and pizza. Watched some Spiderman and Batman, played catch and even had a nerf gun fight. Zj and my little brother above…how cute!
